DREAM’s Sport Protection Program:
DREAM Adaptive Recreation strives to safeguard our sport environments from misconduct, including athlete physical and sexual abuse. To that end, DREAM has constructed a sport protection handbook and policies designed to increase our community’s knowledge base, create stronger detection and protection systems for our programs, and to establish entry barriers for abusers. This handbook and policies within are specific to events, programs, and services provided directly through DREAM. As a member chapter of Move United (formerly DSUSA), DREAM is required to adopt a written Sports Protection Policy that meets the minimum standards of Move United and makes the policy publicly available to our community.
**Should you need to report misconduct, please follow the steps found in the volunteer handbook here.**
Sport Protection Training (computer based) – required once a year for all DREAM volunteers and staff
DREAM uses a training program called Darkness to Light (D2L)
*DREAM covers the cost of all sport protection training for volunteers and staff*
- Sport Protection Training = approx. length 45 min.
You may start this training and come back to it if needed, it will save your progress!
Background Checks (computer based) – required every two (2) years for all DREAM volunteers and staff
Criminal background checks will be refreshed every year, or as otherwise required by law, for Covered Individuals (see definition of Covered Individuals in the Sport Protection Policy) who are 18 years of age or older and perform services for DREAM. DREAM, through support from Move United, has chosen the National Center for Safety Initiatives (NCSI) to conduct Full Service Screens for Covered Individuals.
The cost of the background check is covered by DREAM, all volunteers and staff are required to complete a new background check every two years. NCSI runs a re-screen after the first year as part of the fee. We appreciate your commitment to creating a safe environment for our participants.
**Approved Jr. Volunteers (16-18 yrs old) do not need to submit a background screening.**
