The nonprofit, DREAM, aims to break down barriers to outdoor recreation for people with disabilities.

“We have all types of adaptations that really focus on people’s strengths and what they can do, and we just get people outside, families outside having a great time together,” Dream Adaptive Recreation executive director Julie Tickle said.

Stacy Jaquith, who joined Dream Adaptive last year, used to be a police officer 11 years ago. Jaquith was injured in the line of duty.

“I was dragged on the highway, dropped off at 100 miles an hour. I broke my back and have a brain injury, reconstructive surgery in other parts of my body,” she said.

Jaquith says she was housebound for years, and she never thought she’d be able to get out until she started doing adaptive activities such as Dream.

“It’s changed my world. It’s allowed me to get out, to try new things. I never thought that there were so many options of sports where you can participate with a spinal cord injury,” Jaquith said.
